CSI Camp Ages 8 and Up Class #2212 July 28- Aug. 1 9:30am -Noon downstairs in Holley Hall. Become a Crime Scene Investigator! This Camp is designed to introduce students to Forensic Science. Working with the staff of the Bristol Police Department, campers will learn the techniques and methods of forensic science used by law enforcement officers. Working with their CSI team members, campers will collect evidence to solve their very own crime! Students will learn hands-on science testing, as well as meet local law enforcement professionals. LEGO Camp Grades 3-6 Class #2196 Sess. 1: June 23-June 27 Class #2197 Sess. 2: July 14-18 1-4pm at the Masonic Lodge in Bristol. Enjoy coming together with other Junior Lego Engineers to build various modules with LEGO's. In addition, campers can learn to play chess using LEGO computer software. Summer Circus Camp Ages 8 and Up Class # 2204 June 23-27, Mon.- Fri., 9am- Noon at the Bristol Elementary School Gym. Children will work together in a week long camp learning basic circus skills. These will include acrobatics, hoola hooping, clowning and more. They will also work on some set and prop design to help produce a final show at the end of the week for all parents and friends to view. Fee: $75 plus $5 for materials Instructor: Ulana Bihun has been teaching for 7 years at the Vermont School of Circus Arts and has also performed with Circus Smirkas.
Hands On, Lights Up! Summer Theatre Camp Grades: 4-8 Class# 2205 Week 1: July 14-18 Class # 2206 Week 2: July 21-25 9:30am - Noon at Holley Hall. This summer's edition of theatre camp will be two weeks as a pre-production for a Potato Hill Players' musical show. Participants will make props, design set pieces, work on acting scenes and musical numbers, and take their parts in the production which will run August 1, 2 & 3. Skills built in voice production, physical comedy and theatrical artistry will be immediately fruitful, and fun. Be a part of an experience that integrates middle school, high school and young adults in creative presentation to the wider community. Movie Magic Camp Grades 4-6 Class # 2199 July 28-Aug. 1, 9:00am- Noon at The Hub/ Youth Center. Learn how to shoot & edit your own movies. This is a hands on video production workshop. Digital camcorders & movie editing equipment provided but if you have a camcorder, please bring it. Finished movies will be aired on NEAT TV (our local public access television station). Fee: $75 Instructor: Mary Arbuckle, local film maker and director of NEAT TV.
Where the Wild Things Grow Class #2247 July 20, Sunday 3-5pm at Marijke Niles' house. Call 453-7590 for directions. The first part of this class will consist of an overview of the necessary steps to create a Wildlife Habitat. You may have hidden treasures already! We will explore Wildlife Habitat examples outside. International Drumming Camp July 14-18, Mon.- Fri. at the Bristol Elementary gym. Looking for a creative, energy-burning outlet! This camp warmly invites children and adults to try an international drumming experience with Taiko (Japanese drumming with sticks) and Djembe (West African hand drumming) in a fun and respectful learning environment. Taiko meetings will start with some warm up stretches, then we'll get out the sticks and drums and make some noise! Taiko and Djembe campers will learn traditional rhythms and basic techniques. Taiko campers will also work their way toward combining the rhythms, technique and basic choreography of this beautiful Japanese drumming style. Grades and Times: Class #2233 Taiko Grades 1-2, 9-10am Class #2227 Taiko Grades 2-3, 10-11am Class #2229 Taiko Grades 4 to adults, 11am-Noon Class # 2231 Djembe Grade 4 to adults, Noon-1pm Fee: $60 per student or $70 per adult Drums are provided. Instructor: Stuart Paton, Director & Founder of Burlington Taiko Group and the Burlington Taiko Youth Ensemble. He has studied djembe for over 20 years and been a principle drummer for the Je Kulu Dance & Drum Ensemble.
Puppy Class For people with dogs 3-5 months of age. Class #2178 May 3 -June 7, Sat., 9-10am at The Hub Youth Center. Start off on the right paw! Students will learn the basics of positive reinforcement training for their puppies. You will work on behaviors such as sit, down, come, leaving objects alone, wait, and loose leash walking. We will discuss strategies around puppy behaviors like: nipping, socialization, chewing, crate training, house breaking and the introduction to adolescence. No dogs at the first class. Fee: $110 Instructor: Caroline Engvall has been teaching positive reinforcement dog obedience classes for all ages and breeds for 11 years.
Basic Dog Training For people with dogs 6 months and older. Class #2178 May 3- June 7, Sat., 10:30-11:30am at The Hub. You will learn the basics of positive reinforcement- based obedience with a strong emphasis on management and leadership skills. Dogs will learn: sit, down, come, loose leash walking, and how to handle jumping, aggression, anxiety, aw well as adolescent issues. No dogs at the first class. Fee: $110 Instructor: Caroline Engvall
Women Driving Horses Ages 18 and over Class #2176 May 27,29 June3,5,10,12, 6pm at Thornapple Farm in New Haven. Learn basic horsemanship, harnessing, hitching and driving draft or light horses. Participants need good solid shoes and gloves. Fee: $75 (Absences made up at instructors convenience.) Instructor: Cathy Palmer has been driving and riding horses for over 50 years.
Hunter Safety Ages 8 and up Class # 2198 Aug. 18-22, 9am-Noon at Howden Hall. Class graduates will leave the hunter education courses with a thorough understanding of how to get a lifetime enjoyment from Vermont's magnificent natural resources. Topics covered include: * Introduction to Hunter Education (History, Purpose and sponsors) * Firearms and Hunting Safety * Hunter Responsibility * Personal Preparedness * Wildlife Conservation * Hunting Opportunities * Specialty Hunting Practical instruction includes shooting on the last day.
